Holiday hunger is a massive problem for many children around the UK and something we at SchoolGrid feel very passionate about. Our staff took part in volunteering to help Meals & More deliver meals to hungry children during the holidays.
Millie Caress and Mike Travis (from our Business Development team) rolled up their sleeves to serve free hot meals to the children at the Braunstone Adventure Playground club, engaging them in conversation and joining in with some of the fun activities available to them that day. It was an eye opening experience in which Millie and Mike said they felt really touched by.
Sandra Kemble and Bethan Lloyd who run the club in Leicester explained if it wasn’t for this programme many of these children would not receive a nutritious meal, and that the likelihood is the food they provide will be the only adequate meal the children have as well as the only social dining experience.
Peter McGrath, Operations Director for Meals & More adds “SchoolGrid are a nationally recognised company focused on provide service excellence to their customers. It is a business with a passion and heart, not only do they understand the needs of the customer but of the child, young person, family and indeed the local community. So much so that SchoolGrid approached Meals & More to see what they could do to help children and young people that need support, whilst not at school. Not only by providing funding but also getting involved at a local level. It is clear that SchoolGrid want to put something back into society not for business gain but it being the right thing to do.”
The team at SchoolGrid plan to expand on their charitable work with more volunteering in school holidays.
